White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called on Monday for Congress to work with President Donald Trump to change immigration laws, saying that this morning’s bombing of a New York City station “underscores the need” for reform.
Police suspect a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant of strapping the bomb to his body and setting it off, the New York Times reports. Sanders said the suspect entered the United States legally through a process called chain migration, which allows documented immigrants to sponsor immediate family members to join them.
Trump wants to end chain migration, which his administration found in a count last month has helped 9.3 million people settle in the U.S. over the last 10 years.
