Roy Moore, an Alabama Republican nominee for United States Senate, allegedly molested a 14-year-old girl when he was 32, a Washington Post investigation found Thursday.
Leigh Corfman told the Washington Post that Moore picked her up from her house and drove her to his home in the woods, where he took off her clothes and touched her.
“I wanted it over with—I wanted out,” she remembers thinking, as told in the Post. “Please just get this over with. Whatever this is, just get it over.”
Three other women interviewed by the Post said Moore asked them on dates when they were between the ages of 16 and 18, while he was serving as assistant district attorney in northern Alabama. The report adds that none of the women sought out the Post, but decided to go on the record after reporters Stephanie McCrummen and Beth Reinhard contacted and interviewed them multiple times.
“I have prayed over this,” Corfman said. “All I know is that I can’t sit back and let this continue, let him continue without the mask being removed.”
Moore, a former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court known as the “Ten Commandments Judge,” denied the allegations in a written statement, calling it “fake news.”
Both Democratic and Republican senators have called the reports “deeply troubling,” and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on Moore to withdraw from the Senate race if the reports are confirmed.
