The Trump administration petitioned the Supreme Court on Thursday night to reinstate a travel ban that stops entry to the United States from six Muslim-majority countries for 90 days, NPR reports.

Courts in Hawaii and Maryland have blocked the ban. Last month, an appeals court in Virginia upheld the Maryland decision, saying Trump’s order “speaks with vague words of national security, but in context drips with religious intolerance, animus, and discrimination.” The administration seeks to overturn those decisions.

“The Constitution and Acts of Congress confer on the President broad authority to prohibit or restrict the entry of aliens outside the United States when he deems it in the Nation’s interest,” the government’s petition to the Supreme Court states.

This is the administration’s second attempt at instituting a travel ban via executive order. A previous, broader version of the ban was also blocked by courts days after its signing in January.
