Betsy DeVos Confirmed as Secretary of Education

The Senate confirmed Betsy DeVos today as the next secretary of education, with Vice President Mike Pence voting to break a 50–50 split. All 48 Democrats voted against DeVos, joined by two Republican senators, while the remaining 50 Republicans voted for the appointment.

DeVos is the first cabinet secretary in history whose confirmation required a vice president’s tie-breaking vote, the Washington Post reported.
