We’re Hiring a Senior Associate Editor to Oversee Our Front-of-Book Section

The ideal candidate will have thoughts not just about how to improve our current front-of-book, but also how to cleverly translate and expand its features online.

Pacific Standard is looking for a new editor with print magazine experience to join our growing team in Santa Barbara, California. This editor’s main responsibility will be assigning, managing, writing, and producing the print magazine’s front-of-book sections and articles. We are in search of someone who has the ideas and initiative to improve these features and expand them online.

Our ideal candidate will thrive in the world of ideas, but is savvy enough to make those ideas resonant for a broad lay public. Special consideration will go to applicants who are conversant in the social and behavioral sciences (psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, etc.), and who have a sense of intellectual currency within those fields. Equally important is to have an ear to the national conversation, a sense of the economy and/or policy, and a sense of the cultural moment. Our aim is to put these two broad worlds, one popular and the other academic, in lively conversation with one another. As a magazine concerned with matters of public interest, we’re also looking for someone with a strong sense of social conscience.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: After reading our About Us page, send us—along with your resume and cover letter—your thoughts and impressions on our current front-of-book section (from the Letters page through Prospectors), and what you would do to improve it.
