Empathy (Prague, Czech Republic)
Before becoming president, Barack Obama lamented our “empathy deficit.” In spite of his entreaties, we still have a problem imagining how the world looks from another person’s perspective. Is the ability to empathize an inherent skill, or something that can be taught? Have digital media and social networking made us more empathetic, or less? Those are among the topics to be discussed as this interdisciplinary conference. Don’t bother to bring fancy footwear: You’ll be walking a mile in someone else’s shoes.
