Stephon Clark was shot by police once in the side, six times in the back, and once in the front of his thigh after he had already fallen, an autopsy commissioned by his family has found.

Two Sacramento police officers chased and shot Clark on March 18th while searching for a burglary suspect, the Sacramento Bee reports. He died within three to 10 minutes, according to an estimate by Bennet Omalu, a former chief examiner for San Joaquin County who conducted the independent autopsy.

Clark turned out to be unarmed, and his death sparked large protests organized by Black Lives Matter and other groups. The city police, under the supervision of the California Department of Justice, is investigating the shooting, the Los Angeles Times reports. Results from an official county autopsy aren’t expected for several weeks.
