H.L. Mencken’s American Mercury once called cigarettes “the most democratic commodity in common use.”

While big tobacco may be positioning itself for a smoke-less, e-cigarette future, a billion smokers across the globe still celebrate their egalitarianism with 15 billion cigarettes every single day, according to the World Health Organization.

In order to visualize the staggering physical amount that represents, Healthline, a website devoted to health education, developed this handy infographic. Who knew that all it took to get to the moon was a half a day of smoking?
