A drive-in movie theater in Henagar, Alabama, has canceled its scheduled showtimes of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast because it will feature the studio’s first exclusively gay scene.
In a Facebook post on Friday, the owners of the Henagar Drive-In Theater wrote that they canceled all scheduled screenings as a protest to companies “continually [forcing] their views on us.” “We need to take a stand,” they added.
The owners, who who assumed control of the theater in mid-December, acknowledged that their decision would be controversial, and noted that theirs was a personal decision. “If we can not take our 11 year old grand daughter and 8 year old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it,” the owners wrote. “If I can’t sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it.”
