On Tuesday, President Donald Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, following news that Comey provided false information in his testimony to Congress about the agency’s findings in the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein both recommended Comey’s dismissal, according to a statement from the White House.

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgement of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau,” Trump’s letter to the former FBI director stated.
