An attack on Wednesday on the United Kingdom Parliament grounds left four dead and at least 20 others injured, the New York Timesreports. The assailant, who at 2:40 p.m. local time in London drove a car into crowds on Westminster Bridge, is among the dead. He was shot by police after exiting his vehicle on the bridge and stabbing a police officer. Parliament was in session at the time, and lawmakers remain locked down in the main debating chamber of the House of Commons. “One member of the British government gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to one of those injured,” CNN reports.
Police are treating the attack, which occurred on the anniversary of last year’s suicide bombings in Brussels that killed 32, as an act of terrorism.
